The blueRoam™ Architecture
Secure The blueRoam™ service is architected from the ground up with security in mind. blueRoam™ uses SSL with AES-128
bit encryption, the encryption standard required by the National Security Administration. In addition, blueRoam™ requires
strong passwords and allows users to implement their own security policies regarding password length and password lockout.
blueRoam™ protects your network from malicious code such as worms, Trojan horses, and viruses by allowing
administrator to enforce virus policies and block remote access based on the existence of malicious code on remote workstations.
Firewall Friendly blueRoam™ runs exclusively over https and requires outbound access only. This means organizations need
not change their firewall and your users can access resources remotely from anywhere.

Self Configuring and Installing The blueRoam™ architecture is self configuring for your environment.
This means organizations need not make complicated changes, learn new technology, or set up software on remote
PCs for access. All that is required is an Internet connection.
The blueRoam™ service is comprised of three basic pieces:
blueRoam™ Web Site This is where users login, administrative actions are done and VPN connectivity is authenticated, managed, and monitored.
blueRoam™ VPN Hub The blueRoam™ VPN hub a small piece of software that is installed on a workstation or server at the office,
and is the conduit through which all remote access flows. This software can be installed anywhere on the network and works behind
any NAT capable firewall. The blueRoam™ VPN hub creates a firewall friendly outbound https connection to the blueRoam™ website to
indicate that it is available. It will maintain this connection as long as the blueRoam™ service is available.
The blueRoam™ VPN hub can be installed on the following platforms
- * Windows XP Professional
- * Windows 2000 Professional
- * Windows 2000 Server
- * Windows 2003 Server
blueRoam™ VPN Client The blueRoam™ VPN client is used to access the remote site(s) that a specific user has available to him
or her via the blueRoam™ website. The blueRoam™ VPN client creates an firewall friendly https connection to the blueRoam™ website
and requests access to a specific remote site. Based on successful authentication, the blueRoam™ VPN client then uses the established
https connection as an IP tunnel, through the blueRoam™ web server, to the requested site, via the blueRoam™ VPN Hub.
The blueRoam™ VPN client can be installed on the following platforms
- * Windows XP Professional
- * Windows 2000 Professional
- * Windows 2000 Server
- * Windows 2003 Server
- * Linux kernel 2.4 and above
